tussah
silk tops are shimmering, honey-coloured
combed silk with
a staple length of 3-4 inches.
this silk comes
from silkworms reared in the wild on trees which leaves contain "tanin".
this tanin is what causes the tussah silk to be slightly honey-coloured.
it is not as fine or lusterous as the bombyx silk.
bombyx

stretched over a square frame. each layer consists of a cobweb-like random preparation of silk.
several layers together become dense in appearance. a great
inexpensive preparation of silk, fun to experiment with. each
hanky is approximately 25cm square.
